Beginner harvester

by karen werner
(montague, MA USA)

I live in Massachusetts and want to go harvesting seaweed in early May. Where do you suggest that I go? And this will be my first time.

What resources do you recommend that I get, in terms of books for identifying? I would like to identify, dry, and eat what I harvest.

Guides to harvest of seaweed
by: Thorkil

Hi Karen Werner. There are three guides giving you excellent advices at the issue harvesting your own seaweed. Sea Vegetables Harvesting Guide & Cookbook by Evelyn McConnaughey. Pacific Seaweeds - A Guide to Common Seaweeds of the West Coast by Louis Druehl and Seaweeds of the Pacific Coast - Common Marine Algae from Alaska to Baja California by Jennifer Mondragon and Jeff Mondragen. Good luck to you at the coastside!
