Does kelp have a positive or negative effect on the thyroid of patients who use synthroid?

by crystalrose

Do kelp supplements support the healthy function and/or growth of the thyroid in individuals who have congenital hypothyroidism? My 2 and a half yr old was diagnosed at 6 wks. I was told she would be on the medication the rest of her life. I have been giving her kelp for about half a year now and the endocrinologist recently lowered her dosage but would scold me again if she knew I was giving my little on the kelp. So they are just completely amazed that her levels dropped. I am writing a research paper on the topic and am looking for any studies done on the subject, do you know of any resources you could direct me to.
