If you have hypothyroidism, it has been advised by Dr. Mercola that about 5 grams a day of organically grown seaweed provides one with the necessary amount of organically bound iodine. So, a pound of of kelp is good for two months.

Kelp contains bromine, bulk fiber, calcium, iodine, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, and vitamins A, B complex, C, D E and K.

It is best to consult your doctor before you start incorporating something new to your diet.
