Riverweed of Laos is called kai. Since this grows in fresh water, you don't get that briny taste like nori. Don't get me wrong, I looooove nori.

I've never tried river weed but I've read that it is a good source of potassium, fiber, calcium, iron and protein.

When it is pounded flat like nori and prepared with sesame seeds, that's when it is called kaipen by the locals.

If you know where one can buy it in Singapore, please let me know.

Keep in touch!
