Seaweed instead of salt?

by Noreen
(London)

My husband has polycystic kidney disease and has to avoid salt. Can I use seaweed as a substitute?

Polycystic kidney disease and seaweed
by: Mica

I am not familiar with polycystic kidney disease (PKD) and had to read up on it. The best thing to do is to consult your doctor regarding the salt replacement of your husband.

I will look for an expert who can help answer this question.

In the meantime, based on what I have read, it is helpful to serve broth made from seaweed, like wakame and other vegetables as mentioned here -
